A broad coalition of 111 groups world-wide endorsed Principles for the Oversight of Synthetic Biology The charter calls for a moratorium on new GM until laws are enacted to govern the synthetic organisms and their products, protect public health and the environment, and meet economic, social and ethical goals. SynBio can be used to cut-and-paste genes, to write genetic code, to create new genes and genetic traits, and make new life forms from scratch that have never existed before.
